Accommodation Tax in Dortmund

Please note that the City of Dortmund levies an accommodation tax.

The accommodation tax amounts to 7.5% of the room rate and is charged in addition to the room price.

On 9 February 2023, the Dortmund City Council resolved that the accommodation tax applies to all paid overnight stays within the city of Dortmund. Since 1 April 2023, the tax has therefore applied to both private and business-related stays.

According to the City of Dortmund:

"The accommodation tax is a municipal tax that accommodation providers are legally required to collect from their guests in accordance with the City of Dortmund's Accommodation Tax Statute of 14 February 2023 and remit to the City. The accommodation tax is not part of the room rate and therefore does not constitute a breach of price transparency regulations between the hotel and the guest. The accommodation tax is a public-law levy imposed by the City of Dortmund on overnight guests. Under the statute, the tax liability arises at the beginning of the paid accommodation."
